Sorry for posting twice in as many days, but I can't contain my enthusiasm for yesterday's election results in France. I knew the French would rally against the National Rally, and penalise Le Pen. Ok, ok, enough with the terrible puns.
Yes, it's a hung parliament, yes, the situation is messy. But the fascists didn't win this time: ¡No pasarán! El pueblo unido, jamás será vencido! The fight against the fascist monster is International.
I also congratulate our British friends, but did it have to take 14 flipping years? And some of the worst PMs in your long history of democracy?
My dad often quotes a saying, attributed to Thomas Jefferson: “Every man has two countries – his own and France.” Let's all be French! Vive la France!
Dear American friends, read this and do the right thing, come November. Choose those who appeal to your better nature, to your most treasured values.

Yes indeed, Portia! A great relief yesterday at 20:00 (aka 8 pm). On a big turnout (67%), with the left undivided for once, the French showed that they are far from drifting helplessly extreme rightwards. Let's hope this will spread through Europe and, why not? a little bit across the Atlantic...?
